Task-Find a photographers website that inspires you or choose one from the list provided

I've chosen Alma Hasers website as I find his work intriguing and really wanted to try and take elements of his style and intertwine them with mine. When I saw the image on the far right the thoughts that came to mind is the perspective of the viewer and the object. The overlapping in the image could represent the repetition of how often you see the object.

For my project, I wanted to show that throughout isolation we have witnessed a lot more repetition in our lives. The days feel the same and we find ourselves unconsciously observing the objects in our homes. For example, as I've been sitting at my desk most days I've stared at my flask during dull lessons and this is one o the objects i keep with me all day. so through a long boring day, the flask has been noticed a lot more than it would have if life was untouched by the disease.

Final Five

This is an image of a polaroid camera which I've edited to represent repetition. The background is plain to concentrate on the focal point on the camera. I've used a viewpoint of how I would see this object as I pass it. The reason I didn't shoot this in its original home was so I could make sure that I could edit the image without any of the background compromising the result.

The image is a portrait with negative space included to stretch out the picture exaggerating the changes I've made. The image is in colour( to get an accurate representation of the object looks like to the individual continuously observing it during lockdown) and was shot on a digital canon 2000d with an 18-55mm lens. I used a shutter speed of 1/15 sec. f/4.5 with a zoom of 34 mm, 800 iso. I shot it on digital with a fast shutter speed to again obtain the clearest image to what it looks like in real life. The clear image means the viewer can easily connect with the image as they've seen it the same way that they would see it in person accept the overlapping causes confusion. The purpose of the shallow depth of field used was to focus only on the polaroid.

the overlapping with multiple versions of the image denotes the repetition of these objects in our lives. What the viewer can see is a view of this object that is familiar with how blurry vision looks. The blur themes within this image are to demonstrate the blur of everyday life living the same days over and over. Ideas of frustration can also be seen within the blur as we become numb to time and interactions fade.

Although the differences between Alma Hasers work and mine are prominent and distinguishable the inspiration is still clear from his use of manipulating images to change the view of the object using overlapping in his work(commissions-editorial)

This is a picture of my flask which goes with me everywhere in my house in order to prevent the files of glasses that sit in my room. I also keep it with me to remind myself to stay hydrated. Like all the other images the background is plain and white to make sure the focal point is on the bottle. I used my canon 2000d, 1/100 sec. f/4.5 27 mm with a 1000 iso. I used a fast shutter speed because my tripod wouldn't fit in the small space I made my mini studio at home and I wanted to make sure the pictures were as clear as possible. This image is shot in colour to distinguish it from the background easily. Both images give of illusions of the bottle fading into the background/becoming a blur. This connects to the main idea of the shoot which is the continuous repetition of these objects in my day to day life. We see these objects so often that they become part of our cycle and part of the blur that is our lives in lockdown.

How I edited it

I started with the original picture and then on the word(having limited access to editing resources at home I used word as an alternative) I copied and pasted the image multiple times cropping each to strip. Then I arranged them to look as if they are two images overlapping and glitching. For this flask images, I couldn't pick which one I liked more so I included both in my final 5.

This is a picture of a doorstep that I keep in my study. It sits at my door all day but never gets used. I always keep my door closed so it never has any use but it was my dads so I can't bring myself to throw it away. I often stare at it during hours of work in my study. It's a clear repetition in my day. I took this on my canon d200 with 1/15 sec. f/3.5 21 mm and a 400 iso.

The fast shutter speed was to create a clear image to relate to the viewer's view of the object and the shallow depth of field was to focus the image onto the object. The photo has been framed so that there was plenty of negative space around the object for when I was editing. I chose a long rectangular shape to stretch out the object and to focus on the editing.

Another factor to consider is that the viewer won't know its a doorstep unless they see the full shape which is why River was chosen to spread the strips out with a plain background instead of overlapping any strips. The picture still enotes themes of fading and conforming to a cycle of life in lockdown it just has a different method compared to the other

I started with the original picture and then on the word. I copied and pasted the image multiple times cropping each to strip. Then I arranged them to look as if they are two images overlapping and glitching. For this flask images, I couldn't pick which one I liked more so I included both in my final 5. I created the cross over in the top left corner to add a sign of manipulation and add personality to the image and something else to occupy the viewers view.

This is a picture of a clock that I normally keep on my shelf. It doesn't move and you can tell by the thin layer of dust that lays on the top of it. I took this picture on my canon d200 1/100 sec. f/4 27 and an iso of 1600. I used a fast shutter speed fo a clear image and a shallow depth of field because there was only one subject to focus on.

Evaluation

The aim of this project was to show repetition in our lives with images. Inspired by Alma Haser, I feel my work has successfully achieved this. I like the images that have been produced and enjoyed the editing process.

The shoot went well and everything went to play. The sky was particularly white meaning the light reflected off the mirror was pure and bright which imitated the lighting in the studio at college. I was impressed that I was able to come up with this alternative at home as I would have been disappointed if I couldn't have produced what I originally wanted to when I saw Almas work.

Overall I think this project went really well and the only thing I would change is the background. I would have preferred to do this shoot In the studio. I also might have used a coloured background instead of white to mix textures and colours.
